Copy editing
Shirley has been copy editing for decades, from helping fellow college students with papers, theses, and dissertations to editing a nonprofit agency's newsletter for 11 years. She has been the go-to person for help finalizing reports, legal filings, op ed pieces, websites, and public policy comments for just about every group or organization she's been involved with. That volunteer background plus her own extensive writing provide a solid foundation for her current copy editing services.

Proofreading
Shirley is what Lynne Truss, author of Eats, Shoots & Leaves calls a "Stickler," a person with an apparently inborn ability (or is it a curse?) to spot typos; excessive, absent, or misplaced apostrophes; disagreement of antecedents; and a host of other spelling and grammatical errors that "non-sticklers" overlook. It can be annoying to have your lunch partner point out typos on the menu or find that the newspaper has been marked up with a red pen. But having a stickler for a proofreader will enhance the effectiveness and professionalism of your writing.
